Steam Next Fest is now live, and players have discovered numerous engaging indie games. However, one is particularly notable for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled jumping adventure lets you play a protagonist that is literally a piece of poop attempting to travel to a toilet. For those curious, "Unko" translates to "poop."
How you interact is straightforward: you only need a single jump button. Throughout one hundred fifty stages, encounter mini-bosses and visit a shop to acquire customizations for your fecal avatar.
Execute your actions carefully, as a wrong move means restarting the level. Leap on bubbles to propel yourself to new heights, cross fragile ledges, and activate switches to unlock secret routes. Collect coins to purchase challenging levels in which the action ramps up.
Visually, the game features neon environments and an amazing background music. The retro visual style of morphing geometric shapes could recall players of beloved games like Earthbound.
While it's tough to name previous releases where you are a coiled turd, interactive entertainment often incorporated fecal matter. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, players craft explosives from character excrement. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize dung as fertilizer. Naturally, fecal references appears heavily in Obsidian's adventure The Stick of Truth.
Putting aside its silly concept, Unko Technica has already earned impressive recognition, including winning at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. A playable preview is available at present on Steam, with the complete version scheduled to launch on PC in the fall.
