Although the reception for Peacemaker season 2 has been largely positive, with fans and critics praising the performances and storyline—despite the fact that the major revelation in episode 7 wasn't exactly a shock—one critique has only grown stronger throughout the season: decreasing episode runtimes.
Over the past few episodes, viewers have voiced frustration over the significantly reduced runtimes in season 2, and indeed, the installments have been getting shorter and shorter. The seventh episode, called “Like a Keith in the Night,” lasted only 28 minutes (not counting the summary, opening credits, and end credits), making it the shortest episode so far.
Fans will be pleased to know next week's episode is over 57 minutes long.
Series creator and DC Universe head James Gunn wrote on Threads, responding to a viewer's concern.
Despite this news, it remains unclear what portion of the 57 minutes will be brand-new content, free from intro and outro segments, or recaps of previous events. That said, even if the episode includes all the aforementioned filler, that still leaves roughly three-quarters of an hour for the concluding episode, which is a big upgrade after episode 7.
Gunn previously teased that the finale would not only wrap up Peacemaker but also give a hint towards the direction the broader DC Universe as a whole will be moving and act as a prequel of sorts for the upcoming Man of Tomorrow film. Considering the cameo of the actor's portrayal of Lex Luthor from the sixth installment, many are anticipating a exciting guest appearance to conclude the show.
The show's finale, the eighth episode, is titled "The Full Nelson," and audiences must wait to see if viewer theories are proven correct.
